In the past, there has been no significant
revenue stream related to walking
that would allow a public ad campaign of any magnitude to promote
more of it. Compare walking with driving -- more money is spent
on advertising automobiles than any other product in the world.
The cost of ignoring the current epidemic of inactivity is so
high, however, that maybe some money can be found. We in the
U.S. have the most sophisticated marketing system in the world,
and maybe it can be put to work making walking totally cool.
